Assuta is the largest private clinic in the country. Every year, the clinic admits several hundred thousand Israeli and foreign patients that come to Israel for treatment from all over the globe.
Assuta is a large surgical clinic that offers more than 500 types of surgery in oncology, cardiac surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, etc. 13% of surgical procedures in Israel are performed in this clinic. Every day, the Assuta physicians perform about 300 surgical interventions. Every year, about 92,000 patients – both Israeli and citizens of other countries – get surgical treatment here.

The History of the Assuta Hospital
2011
Assuta received the JCI certificate proving that the level of medical service complies with the highest international standards. Also this year, the clinic acquired the Da Vinci surgical robot and became one of the first Israeli hospitals to start performing robot-assisted surgery.
2009
The first modern building of the clinic was erected in the prestigious area in the northern part of Tel Aviv. This was a spacious 10-storey building with original architecture and 16 operating rooms. It was a joint project of Israeli and Canadian architects. Their innovative solutions made Assuta one of the safest clinics in the world. These innovations include, for instance, separate elevators for patients and visitors and separate corridors for transportation of used and sterile equipment. The hospital comprised a rehabilitation center, a business center, shops, cafes and restaurants.

The IVF center was founded.
1986
Professor Bernardo Vidne founded a cardiac surgery center in the clinic.
1953
Another 4-storey building was erected on the territory of the clinic, and its capacity increased to 150 hospital beds.
1935
The Assuta Clinic admitted its first patients. When it opened, there were 74 hospital beds.
1934
Doctor Ben-Zion Harel, a repatriate from Latvia, and his partners, doctors from Germany, established Assuta, the first private clinic in Israel (in Tel Aviv). The word "assuta" translates from Aramaic as "health". Shaul Chernihovsky, the famous Israeli poet who was a doctor by profession, invented this name for the clinic. The list of the first chief executive officers of the hospital included its founder, Doctor Ben-Zion Harel, and his son, Professor Haim Harel, as well as Professor Shimon Rosenbaum, the famous Israeli pediatrician, and Doctor Arie Oren, an otolaryngologist.
Unique Surgery and Procedures
Implantation of the NUsurface Artificial Meniscus
One of the first surgical implantations of a NUsurface artificial meniscus developed in Israel took place in Assuta. Doctor Noam Reshef performed it in 2020. Up until now, only about 500 procedures of this type have been done in the world.
The NUsurface meniscus is a carbonate-polyurethane implant; a full-fledged substitute for the natural meniscus. The implant is inserted through a small incision no longer than 5-6 cm.
Cryoablation for Kidney Cancer
The first procedure of this kind in Israel was done at the Assuta Clinic by a multidisciplinary team including Doctor Alexander Belenky, a vascular surgeon; Doctor Shay Golan, an urologist; and Doctor Uri Benedet, a radiologist. The procedure was performed with the technology developed in Israel.
Cryoablation has become an alternative to partial nephrectomy, a complex surgical intervention with a high risk of bleeding. The doctors used a fine needle to inject liquid nitrogen of an extremely low temperature into the tumor and destroy it. The procedure was done under local anesthesia and guided by imaging technologies that helped track the needle in real time.
Robot-Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery
This type of surgery was first performed in Israel by Doctor Yaron Berkowitz, an orthopedic surgeon from Assuta. The procedure is done with a NAVIO surgical robot. Using 3D modeling technologies, the robot fits the implant with millimeter accuracy. This facilitates the patient’s recovery and prolongs the service life of the endoprosthesis.
Implantation of Intellis Spinal Cord Stimulators
The Assuta Clinic was the first hospital in Israel where the most advanced Intellis stimulators for chronic pain treatment were implanted. They differ from their predecessors: their size is smaller, and they work longer without recharge.
Stimulators are an alternative to continuous use of painkillers.
Physimax Rehabilitation Technology
Since 2018, the clinic offers Physimax, the innovative technology for recovery after sport injuries. The procedure is done at the Assuta REACTION, the center of physical therapy and rehabilitation.
The patient does special exercises in front of a 3D camera for 10 minutes. A computer program analyzes the record. The patient’s motor skills are assessed according to various parameters: stability, strength, etc. The analysis detects abnormalities and risk factors.
Then the doctors give the patient recommendations on faster recovery and prevention of new injuries.

Since the new building of the clinic has been functioning for only 3 years, nothing is outdated. The clinic only has the most advanced, the best equipment in the world. It offers:

Since the clinic is private, it does not organize student practice or training. The clinic does not employ residents and trainees who do not have a license of a specialist physician.
Hospital Rooms in Assuta
Patients can be accommodated in standard 2-bed rooms or book a separate room, which has:
- A comfortable electric functional bed for the patient;
- An armchair and a bed for an attendant who can stay with the patient around the clock;
- Separate bathroom with shower and toilet;
- A computer connected to an audio and video system and to the Internet (the patient can order movies and games).

The Assuta Clinic works daily, except Friday and Saturday, from 9:00 to 18:00. A part of medical personnel works around the clock and monitors the condition of patients in the hospital rooms.
