Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, either acute or chronic. Treatment of pancreatitis in Israel is carried out with the help of modern medicines. If necessary, surgical treatment is prescribed – usually it is performed without incisions, laparoscopically.

During digestion, pancreatic juice and bile flowing through the bile ducts are secreted and digest food together. Acute pancreatitis can be caused by a gallstone that moves and blocks the duct that connects the gallbladder to the pancreas. This leads to an increase in pressure inside the pancreatic ducts. Enzymes produced by the pancreas, instead of digesting food, rupture the pancreas and corrode its tissues. In addition to gallstone disease, causes of acute pancreatitis can include heavy drinking, injury, and infection.

The danger of acute pancreatitis lies in the fact that enzymes that have gone beyond the pancreas destroy not only the gland, but also other tissues of the body, which, if left untreated, can lead to the death of the patient.

The main symptom of acute pancreatitis is severe girdle pain in the upper abdomen, which is somewhat relieved if you take the so-called fetal position – lie on your side and bend over.

Acute pancreatitis is diagnosed without difficulty: due to severe pain, a person usually immediately turns to an ambulance. Chronic pancreatitis may not cause severe symptoms for a long time, and the patient does not seek medical help until the disease reaches an “advanced” stage.
